It reminds me of the book "Black Like Me" where a White journalist medically darkened his skin tone for a portion of time to experience what it was like to be seen as a Black person in the South. He published the findings of his ethnographic investigation shortly after he was no longer transracial.
In your case you're able to speak to the reality of this without having to put your health at risk via a medically harmful transracial procedure. Truly brilliant insights.
From a social utilitarian perspective, Niccolo Machiavelli would argue living with the "okay" photo more often than the "not okay" photo (especially when seeking a raise/ promotion, meeting a new lover's parents if you're dating interracially, when being pulled over during a traffic stop, etc).
